(PV) Panels

A solar PV system uses energy from the sun to generate electricity. It doesn't need sunlight to produce electricity - only daylight,
even in winter.

So you could be helping to lower your bills by reducing the amount of electricity you need from your supplier.

How it works:
A solar PV panel consists of cells of one or two layers made from a semi-conducting material
like silicon.

If you don't use all the electricity that you have generated it will be fed into the National
Grid automatically.

Solar Thermal Panels

While solar photovoltaic (PV) panels use
energy from the sun to generate electricity, solar thermal panels use it to heat water for
your home.

A solar thermal system works alongside conventional water heaters.

Your current hot water cylinder will also need to be replaced with one that is suitable for
solar water heating. This should not affect
your current boiler and heating system as
most conventional systems are compatible
with solar hot water systems.
